Why this routing
Most people book one Mauritian beach and stay on it, which wastes the island. This journey uses two bases at opposite corners: Le Morne, where a basalt mountain drops straight into the best kitesurfing water in the Indian Ocean, and Poste de Flacq on the calm east, where the overwater suites and the golf are. Between them, the Black River Gorges and Chamarel.
Mauritius rewards moving. Ten nights split between Le Morne's UNESCO monolith and the sheltered east coast, with the gorges, the coloured earths and Port Louis' market threaded through.
