The setting does most of the work here — the mountain rises straight out of the peninsula behind the resort, and the light on it at sunset is the reason people book. This is the windward corner of Mauritius, which makes it the centre of the island's kitesurfing scene, and the famous underwater-waterfall illusion is visible on the helicopter transfer in. LUX* has a lighter, more playful register than the grande-dame properties, and prices accordingly.
