The classic, and still the reference
Maldives
One island, one resort, nobody else.
The Maldives invented the overwater villa and still builds it better than anywhere. Each resort has its own island, so once the seaplane leaves the world narrows to a ring of sand, a warm lagoon and the two of you. It is the easiest honeymoon to get right — and the easiest to get slightly wrong, because the atoll, the villa side and the transfer decide far more than the brand on the gate.

Seychelles
Granite boulders, empty beaches, two or three islands.
The inner Seychelles are fragments of an ancient continent, which is why the beaches are punctuated by house-sized granite boulders worn smooth over millions of years. A honeymoon here is usually two or three islands rather than one — Mahé, Praslin and La Digue are a short hop apart — and the private islands, reached by helicopter, are among the most secluded addresses in the Indian Ocean.

Mauritius
A lagoon you can drive out of.
Mauritius is a real country before it is a resort: a mountain range you can hike, a capital with a market, rum distilleries still working, and a Creole-French-Indian kitchen worth planning around. The reef rings almost the whole island, so the lagoon is calm — but you can leave it. It suits couples who want days that are not all the same day.

Andaman Islands
India's own islands — no passport, no visa.
Rainforest running down to white sand, water clear enough to see the reef from the boat, and Radhanagar Beach on Havelock for the sunsets. For couples flying from India the Andamans need no passport and are a short flight from Chennai, Kolkata or Bengaluru.

Bora Bora
The lagoon that set the standard.
A drowned volcano ringed by a barrier reef, with Mount Otemanu at the centre and a lagoon that changes colour every hundred metres. The resorts sit out on the motus, so every one looks back at the mountain. The overwater bungalow was born in French Polynesia, and the versions here remain the reference. It is a long way from almost anywhere — which is part of what you are buying.

Fiji's warmth is not marketing — the Bula welcome is part of daily life, and it is the thing guests mention most. Because there are so many islands, Fiji does private-island seclusion at a wider range than anywhere else on this list, with adults-only resorts and the only genuine overwater bures in the country.

Palawan
Limestone, hidden lagoons and real adventure.
Jagged limestone towers straight out of the water, lagoons you enter by kayak through gaps in the rock, and a marine biodiversity count among the highest on earth. Palawan is the adventurous honeymoon — and far better value at the top end than the Indian Ocean.

Which island is best for a honeymoon?
It depends on the month and the kind of days you want. The Maldives is the purest version — one island, one resort, overwater villas. The Seychelles suits couples who want two or three islands and dramatic granite beaches. Mauritius is the honeymoon with an itinerary. Bora Bora is the once-in-a-lifetime lagoon, and the longest flight. Fiji does private islands at every scale, Palawan is the adventurous choice, and the Andamans are the islands closest to home for couples from India — no passport needed.
When should we book a luxury honeymoon?
As early as your dates are fixed. The best overwater villas in the Maldives and French Polynesia are often taken twelve months or more ahead for peak season, and the right villa side matters more than the category name.
How much does a luxury island honeymoon cost?
We quote every honeymoon against your dates rather than publishing a price, because the same villa can differ by a factor of three across a year — before flights, transfers and board basis. Message us with a month and a rough length and you get one all-in figure, usually within two hours.
Can we combine two islands or two resorts?
Yes, and it is often the better honeymoon. A split stay — rustic then theatrical in the Maldives, two coasts in Mauritius, three islands in the Seychelles — is quoted as one trip with the transfer between them built in.
Is the Maldives or Bora Bora better for a honeymoon?
Both are overwater-villa destinations. The Maldives is a few hours from the Gulf and India, has far more resorts to choose from and is best November to April. Bora Bora is one lagoon with Mount Otemanu at its centre, best May to October, and is the longest flight on this list from Asia or the Gulf.
