The outer-island escape
Desroches is the accessible outer island: 35 minutes by plane from Mahé, then nothing but a single resort, a working lighthouse, and beach that runs further than you will walk. Bicycles are the transport. The island keeps a giant tortoise sanctuary you can help feed, and the surrounding drop-offs and flats bring serious divers and fly-fishers. It is the Seychelles with the volume turned all the way down.
