Mauritius · Bel Ombre, south coast
Colonial architecture on the wilder south coast, inside a large nature reserve with its own championship golf course.
Colonial-style, nature estate
The property
Bel Ombre is the least developed coast in Mauritius, and Le Telfair sits inside a 2,500-hectare estate that runs from the beach up into forested hills. The architecture is nineteenth-century colonial in style — verandas, white timber, high ceilings — and the estate includes a nature reserve with quad and buggy trails, a golf course, and the restored Château de Bel Ombre for dining. It suits travellers who want a sense of place rather than a generic beach.
Where you sleep
Rooms, suites and villas in colonial style. Which one is right depends on the month and who is travelling — that is the first thing we will ask.
