Overview

Pacific Harbour for the adventure — Beqa Lagoon, the Navua gorge, village visits — then a private island where all meals are included and the kids' club is properly run.

Fiji is the most family-capable of the six destinations, and this uses both halves of that. Nanuku is on the main island, so Beqa Lagoon's bull sharks and the Navua River are reachable without a flight, and every villa comes with a nanny included. Then a short hop to Vomo, a private island with a low-tide sandbank and a hill worth climbing at sunrise.

Day by day

Nanuku Resort FijiDays 1–4 · 4 nights

Day 1Nadi, then Pacific Harbour

A road transfer down the Coral Coast. Every villa at Nanuku comes with a nanny and a Bure Mama, which changes what the rest of the week can hold.

Day 2Beqa Lagoon

Certified divers go down for the bull sharks; everyone else snorkels it. The boat leaves from the resort rather than an hour up the coast.

Day 3The Navua River

Rafting the gorge, then upriver to a village for the afternoon — the inland half of Fiji that a beach holiday never reaches.

Day 4Coral, and a tree

Plant and tag a fragment on the house reef with the resident marine scientist, then come back in later years and see how it did. Dinner in the branches of a Dilo tree.

Vomo Island FijiDays 5–9 · 5 nights

Day 5Helicopter to Vomo

Out to the Mamanucas and a private island of thirty-two rooms. All meals are included from here, and Vuda Reef runs fourteen rotating menus, so a week never repeats a dish.

Day 6Vomo Hill at sunrise

A short climb before breakfast for the whole Mamanuca chain. The kids' club opens early enough to make it possible.

Day 7The sandbank

At low tide a strip of sand surfaces off the island. The picnic goes out to it and comes back before the water does.

Day 8The house reef

Some of the best coral in the Mamanucas sits off this island, and snorkelling is what most guests end up doing most. The dive centre is on the island.

Day 9The Rocks

Sunset from the sandy western tip, then dinner on the point. The last full day is deliberately left unscheduled.

Day 10Boat and road to Nadi

Fiji Time is real and mostly a gift; the transfer is built with slack in it.

Good to know

  • Cyclone season runs November to April; the best diving visibility is July to September.
